Stopped by vandals!

We set off again until after lunch today but we didn’t get very far. It was only about a mile to the first of 2 locks up into Wigan but we couldn’t carry on as vandals had drained the pound further up. It took us quite a while to moor up because when they re-built the concrete edgings here they just dumped all the old copings into the water which made it very difficult for us to find a section of canal deep enough by the bank for us to get in. Luckily we’re in a very nice spot with a view from the boat over-looking Scotsman’s Flash and Wigan Sailing Club.

We went for a walk up to the canal junction to see what was going on. The water level was slowly coming back up but was still a couple of feet down and BW had padlocked Henhurst Lock so we weren’t going anywhere. Hopefully the level will be back to normal so we can carry on again tomorrow.

We normally get email notifications from BW about any problems or stoppages on the canals but haven’t had anything about this. I don’t suppose they work on Saturday?
